Stephen R. Romano,
of Mansfield, formerly of Hyde Park, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 22nd 2017, at the age of 98.
Beloved husband of the late Grace (Infantino) Romano of 70 years. Devoted father of daughters Dolores Victoria and her husband James from Mansfield, and Carol Brown from Hyde Park. Stephen was a loving Grandfather to four grandchildren, Lori Egersheim, Stephen Brown, Anthony Victoria and Andrea Victoria-Ring. Also survived by eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was born on July 12, 1919 in Messina, Sicily in Italy to Nicholas Romano and Josephine (Bonamonte) Romano. Stephen came to the United States when he was the young age of 2 years old, growing up in South Boston and then later residing in Hyde Park.
A veteran of World War II, he was a former member of the U.S. Navy Seaman First Class, fighting on the USS Jobb from 1943-1946. After completing his service, he worked as a steel burner in Cambridge.
His many hobbies included spending time with his family, gardening and woodworking. He was always whistling a tune or singing a song. He was also a dedicated lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox.
His charismatic smile and blue eyes lit up any room. He was an example of how to lead a good life, be honest, work hard, do your best, be loyal and take care of your family. He was truly one of a kind and will be fondly missed by everyone that knew him.
Funeral service will be held at the Bolea-Amici Funeral Home, 115 North Main Street, Mansfield on Monday, November 27, at 11am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visitation prior to the service Monday 9am - 11am. Interment to follow at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
