Robert E. Gardner

Robert E. Gardner, 85, of Mansfield, died peacefully on Thursday, December 8th in his home surrounded by family.  Born in Norwood, he was the son of the late Norman and Hildur (Magnusson) Gardner. He was the Husband of the late Mary E. (Wermers) Gardner.  Bob is survived by his sister Louisa (Gardner) Postulka.  He was brother of the late Frank, Andrew and William.

Bob grew up in Sharon and was a graduate of Sharon High School. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War (Armored Corps). He was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Corporal. Bob was member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7238.  

He was also a lifelong member of Sharon Fish & Game Club.

Prior to his retirement he was employed at the Cambridge Courthouse while being a member of Pipefitters Union Local 537.

In his retirement Bob pursued his passion for Train Travel. He made frequent visits via Amtrak to see family in Florida. Bob also traveled annually to his favorite vacation place, Lake George, NY. There he established many lifelong friendships.  

Bob was the loving father of Maryellen and her husband Ken Fallon of Mansfield, Nancy and her husband Richard Sloggett of Lutz, FL, and Beth and her husband Peter Souza of Mansfield. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Jeff and Kim Sloggett, Kevin and Lindsay Sloggett, Kenny Fallon, Kate (Fallon) and Chris Comeau, and Danny Souza.  Bob has a great-grandchild, Connor Sloggett.  He also has many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at the Bolea-Amici Funeral Home, 115 North Main Street, Mansfield at 11am on Tuesday, December 13th. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be held at the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Sharon. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the funeral home from 9 to 11am.
