Gladys Mary (Murphy) Sullivan

Gladys Mary (Murphy) Sullivan, age 94, most recently a resident of Wingate Residences in Norton, and previously of Mansfield and Dedham, died peacefully surrounded by her family on the Feast of St. Clare.

She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, John (Jack), her four daughters, Joyce Wise and her husband Tom, of Carlsbad, California, Jean, of Wrentham, Colleen Lutkevich and her husband Paul of Mansfield, and Laura Bradley and her husband Michael of Foxborough.  She was a wonderful Nana to Gregory Corso and his wife Jen, Briana Corso and her husband Esteban Danna, Alexandra Lutkevich and her husband Jake Youmell, John and Anastasia Lutkevich, and Andrew and Michael Bradley.  Gladys was also a proud great-grandmother to Owen and Elliott, Isaac and Cosima, and Oliver and Henry.

Gladys was born in Boston and graduated from Jamaica Plain High School in 1939.  She was the daughter of Philip and Mary (Bowes) Murphy, who emigrated from Ireland, and the sister of Phyllis Kiely, John Murphy, Arlene Clancy, and Frank and George Murphy.  She had many special nieces and nephews, especially Gail King.  She is also survived by many cousins in Ireland.  

Gladys worked for many years as a supervisor at the Charles River Association’s sheltered workshop for individuals with intellectual disabilities.  She was also an active volunteer for the Wrentham Family Association, the parent group of the Wrentham Developmental Center, where her daughter Jean has lived for many years.

Gladys was a very kind, loving person, who had great faith in God.  She thought well of everyone, and brought joy, happiness, and a sense of humor to all who knew her.  She loved singing, dancing, decorating, fashion, and people. Gladys was a wonderful wife, mother, Nana, and friend.  She will be greatly missed.

A funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 AM on Saturday, August 20th at St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street, Mansfield, MA, followed by a reception and celebration of her life at the “Rose Garden” hall behind the church.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited.  Funeral arrangements are by Bolea - Amici Funeral Home, Mansfield, MA.
