James L. Roach, Jr.,
58, of Plainville, formerly of Mansfield, died peacefully at home on Monday, May 9, 2016, after a 9 month battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on January 8, 1958, he was the son of James L. Roach, Sr of Mansfield and the late Rita Marie (Shaw) Roach. He was a 1976 graduate of Mansfield High School and a 1980 graduate of St. Anselm’s College.
After graduating from St. Anselm with a degree in criminal justice, he worked briefly with the Massachusetts Department of Corrections before beginning a 32 year career as a Parole Officer with the Massachusetts Parole Board. At the time of his retirement in 2015 due to illness, he had served the State of Massachusetts for over 35 years and was a supervisor of the New Bedford Parole Office.
Besides his father, his survivors include a son, Michael J. Roach of Plainville; a daughter, Christine Bingham of Taunton; his longtime girlfriend, Maura Silvia of Pawtucket, RI; 5 sisters, Patricia Tinant of Lakeview, SD, Jean Cyr of Cambridge, Nancy Roach LeRoux of Mansfield, Julie Finn of Foxboro and Gail Roach Douglas of Stoughton. He is also survived by his in-laws, 1 aunt, 1 uncle, 4 nieces, 6 nephews and many cousins.
Funeral mass at St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Rte. 106) Mansfield on Friday, May 13th at 11:00am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours at the Bolea-Amici Funeral Home, 115 No. Main Street, Mansfield are on Thursday, May 12th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Burial is private.
