Catherine Rose "Bunny" (D'Agostino) Hayner,
age 91, of Mansfield, MA, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2016, at Good Samaritan Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Catherine enjoyed traveling, dancing, bowling and swimming, the latter of which led her to a romantic encounter on Lost Lake in Groton, MA with her soon to become husband of 54 years, the late Stanley G. Hayner who died in 1997.
She was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary for her entire life. Her strong passion and dedication for this cause earned her several leadership positions in the local and state organization until she could no longer participate.
Daughter of Dominic and Mary D’Agostino, she was better known as “Bunny,” a childhood nickname that suited her perfectly as she became the real life energizer who was always ready to bestow kindness and affection on anyone she cared for, whether family, friend or stranger. Catherine gained a great deal of her strength to face challenges from her strong faith in the Catholic Church. Catherine’s compassion led her to a career in nursing which she continued to the end, by often providing what she believed was good advice to the staff at the nursing home where she had been residing.
Catherine’s most treasured time of all was spending it with her precious family.
Catherine and Stanley were the proud parents of Douglas, Mary (Burke), Larry, Dennis and Anne Marie (Hayes), who then joyfully gave them the gift of 10 beautiful grandchildren: Beth, Jenna, John, Jacqui, Tommy, Marie , Alison, Matt, Lindsay and Sean, who in turn gave them 17 beautiful great-grandchildren as well as 1 great-great-grandchild.
Catherine is also survived by her sister Annamarie Smith and brothers Larry and Alexander “Sandy” D’Agostino, along with their many children and grandchildren.
Her funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 10:00A.M. at St. Mary’s Parish, 330 Pratt Street, Mansfield, MA. In the spring she will be interred with her loving husband Stanley at the National Cemetery in Bourne, MA. Arranged by Bolea-Amici Funeral Home, 115 North Main St., Mansfield, MA.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may honor Catherine’s memory with a donation made out to the Alzheimer’s Association. http://www.alz.org/join_the_cause_donate.asp
