Edgar P. "Buster" Deviney,
died peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at his daughter’s home in Mansfield after a long, hard-fought illness. He was 90 years old and the beloved husband of the late Ida E. (Capaldo) Deviney who predeceased him on January 4, 2000.
Born in Boston on November 10, 1924, Buster was the loving son of the late Marion L. (O’Brien) Hopper and Edgar P. Deviney. He was raised in Norwood prior to moving to Mansfield at the age of 15 where he lived for the next 75 years.
Buster was a member of the Mansfield High School Class of 1943. Having worked at Augat in the vibrant Attleboro jewelry business for many years, he then began his career as a manufacturing foreman at the Foxboro Company. Buster retired in 1986 after 24 years of service.
Mr. Deviney was the loving father of Debbie Gordy of Mansfield, cherished grandfather of Shannon (Gordy) DiPierro and her husband David, Ryan Gordy and his wife Melissa, and great-grandfather of Dash DiPierro.
Buster was blessed to have so many dear friends through the years. He thoroughly enjoyed his time golfing and traveling to Cape Cod and New Hampshire with his beloved wife of 53 years. He loved attending Bruins games for many years, being involved with the town, and socializing with “the guys” at Honey Dew, the “99” and the Regent Café. Buster was an avid Bruins and Red Sox fan, and it was rare that he ever missed a game. More than anything, Buster lived to support his daughter and grandchildren in every aspect of their lives.
