William B. Macaulay,
90, a long-time resident of Falmouth, died peacefully at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, MA on November 16, 2014. He was an earlier resident of Boston and Braintree, MA.
He was the husband of the late Josephine J. Raymond, whom he married late in life. The son of William B. Macaulay, Sr. and Lillian E. (Dalton) Macaulay, he was born in Dorchester and he graduated from Dorchester High School in 1942.
He leaves no children, one sibling, Alice I. Sullivan of Mansfield, MA and 17 nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Doris Healy of Natick, MA and the late Jean Macwilliams of Milton, MA.
During WWII, he served with the 7th Army 324th Infantry, 44th Division in the European Theater of Operations as a PFC Combat Infantryman / Lineman, earning 2 Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal. In the post-war period, he founded a highly successful supermarket floor cleaning company building it from a single store to a multi-state operation. In his retirement years, he remained active, working as a sales representative for Collette Vacations of Pawtucket, RI.
He was a lifelong avid reader of history and biography and is remembered by all for his intelligence and wide-ranging knowledgeable conversations regarding culture, history, music, automobiles and aviationn
At his request, there will be no wake or funeral Mass. He will be interred at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, following a private family service.
