Althea (Ashe) Calderara

Althea (Ashe) Calderara, of Quincy, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at the age of 92 surrounded by her loving family.

Althea was born, raised and educated in Old Town, Maine and was the daughter of the late Chester and Affie (Madden) Ashe.

She was the devoted and beloved wife of Bruno Calderara and the cherished mother of Marnelle Ranta and her husband Glenn, Janice Tapper Beaton and her late husband Bill. Sister of Zelma Perkins of Florida and the late Sharland Ashe, Adeline Thompson, Kathleen Waddell and Silvia Abbott.

Prior to her retirement, Althea was employed for 17 years as a manager for Muro Pharmaceutical Labs and 10 years as a sales representative at the Milton Savings Bank.

She and her husband enjoyed traveling to Europe, Puerto Rico, California, Las Vegas, Canada, Virgin Islands and winter vacations in Florida. In her early years they spent many weekends dining and dancing with their closest friends. She enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Patriots with her husband as well as taking many trips to Foxwoods.

Her true passion was her loving family. They enjoyed many memorable gatherings always looking forward to her home-made meals.

She adored her 6 grandchildren, Jeffery Ranta, Pamela Doran, Amy Ranta, Richard David and Jamie Tapper. She was blessed to have had 14 great-grandchildren, Ashley and Josh Ranta, Sarah, Chris and Andrew Doran, Alexandra, Sophie and Katie Tapper David, Shane, Ryan and Cole Tapper, Kyle and Cameron Tapper. She was also aunt to many caring nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday February 6 from 4-8pm in the Bolea-Buonfiglio Funeral Home, 116 Franklin St., Quincy. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, February 7 at 9am followed by burial in Mount Wollaston Cemetery in Quincy.
