Susan A. Ersted,
beloved sister and aunt, dear friend, painter, writer, dancer, and gardener, died on Saturday February 1 in Boston after a battle with lung cancer. She was lovingly cared for by her sisters, Lesley Carrigg and Kim Sullivan, and their families.
Susan approached the world with a gently beckoning hand, drawing people to her. Subtle and perceptive, she befriended many people, listening with full attention and seeing into their hearts with compassion. Children found her irresistible. Some named their pets after her, wanting Susan’s soft, accepting spirit with them at home. An appreciator of art and beauty, Susan visited art museums and galleries, attended theater, opera, and dance performances, and gardened with enthusiasm. Poetry was her companion. After a long career with the Minnesota Department of Health, she retired in 2011 as Communications Manager of the Immunizations, TB, and International Health Section. Born in 1948 in Minneapolis, MN she was the loving daughter of Ann and Robert Ersted. She is survived by her sisters Kim Sullivan & her husband Gene of Bridgewater and Lesley Carrigg & her husband Richard of Sharon. She was the dear aunt of Marie, Ruth, Joanna, Stephen, Annee and grandaunt of Paisley, Emmeline, Devin and Joshua.
A service of remembrance will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4 North Main Street in Sharon on Tuesday February 4 at 11am.and at the Unitarian Universalist 35 St. and Dupont Ave. S. in MN at a later date.
