Antonio "Tony" Svizzero

Antonio "Tony" Svizzero, of Weymouth, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Friday, February 1, 2013 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was 84 years old and the beloved husband of the late Lillian (Blair) Svizzero.

Born in Cocullo, a small mountain village in Abruzzo, Italy on October 17, 1928, he was the loving son of the late Romeo & Bambina (Gentile) Svizzero. Mr. Svizzero immigrated to America in 1931 at the age of 3. Arriving in Quincy, he attended Quincy Schools and served in the United States Army during WWII.

He worked for General Dynamics, Bethlehem Steel Company at the Fore Rivers Shipyard in Quincy, where during a long & successful career he became Vice President and Director of the Massachusetts Shipbuilders Corp. He served tirelessly for worker's rights for the MA State Labor Counsel AFL-CIO amongst other labor groups; and retired as the Regional Director and Business Rep. of the Industrial Union of Marine & Shipbuilding Workers of America. He was a proud member of the NRA.

He was greatly loved and respected for his passion and strength and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Mr. Svizzero was the loving & devoted father of Robert Svizzero and his wife Kathleen of Marshfield, Toni Barry of Marshfield, Leslie Hajjar of Quincy & Laurel Svizzero of Bardstown, KY. He was the cherished grandfather of Robert Svizzero, Nikki Barry, Paul Barry Jr., Marsha Crowell, Blair Hajjar, Mark Hajjar and great-grandfather of Roman, Mason, Cooper, John, Lyla, Myles, Travis, Luca & Ayla. Brother of Almondo and Domenic Svizzero.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Bolea-Buonfiglio Funeral Home, 116 Franklin Street, Quincy on Wednesday, February 6th at 11:00am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-8pm. Interment in Blue Hill Cemetery.
