Jean Verzola Henry
December 14, 2012

Jean Verzola Henry, 60, of Andover, Massachusetts died Friday, December 14, 2012 at Massachusetts General Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Mansfield, MA, Jean was the daughter of William and Catherine (Pellegrini) Verzola and sister to Frances Verzola, all deceased.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 32 years John T. (Jack) Henry; her brother, Michael Verzola of Cincinnati, OH; and her sister, Lisa Tighe of Mansfield, MA. Jean was also sister-in-law to Richard P. and Kathleen Henry, James and Joan Cassin, Carol Verozla and Phillip Tighe. Aunt to Kirstin, Matt, Gina, Beth, Erin, Jimmy, Lori and Michael; great aunt to six; and cousin to many both here in the US and in Italy, Jean was loved by all.

A graduate of Mansfield High School (class of 1970) and summa cum laude graduate of Salem State College ('74), Jean started pursuing her lifelong passion in education at Masconomet High School where students' her first year nicknamed her "Teach." After a short stint away from teaching when she served as legislative aide to Boston City Councilwoman Louise Day Hicks, Jean returned to the classroom at the Burdett School in Boston and later at Reading High School.

In the late 80's, Jean founded the company Office Directions transferring her educational skills to fulfill a growing need in the private sector for training. With a long list of corporate, legal, governmental and medical clients, she eventually teamed up with computer training company, CompuWorks, to provide software training and consulting services.

Her other passions included traveling and the outdoors. Tennis, and particularly skiing, were her joy and she excelled at both. Visiting her aunts and cousins in Northern Italy became the starting point for countless journeys to the Italian, Austrian, Swiss, French and German high alpine resorts. Jean always knew where to find the best snow whether at Vail, Blackcomb or the hundreds of pistes she mastered in the Alps.

In the classroom, traveling abroad or even on the daily commuter rail, Jean was an inspiration to all her beautiful presence touched. She will remain forever in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church, 330 Pratt Street, Mansfield, MA on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 10:00. Family burial will be private.
