John S. "Ras" Kelly Jr. ,
of Quincy, died Saturday, October 6th at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. He was 59 years old. Born in Boston on October 27, 1952, he was the beloved son of John S. Kelly Sr. and the late Helen A. (Cuddy) Kelly.
John was raised and educated in Quincy and a graduate of Quincy High School Class of 1970. He received his degree in Radiology from Northeastern University and dedicated his entire career to serving the Radiology Department at Quincy Medical Center for over 40 years. John was appreciated by staff and patients alike for his dedication, empathy and caring approach.
John was known for his joy of life and love of music and shared his passion as a drummer for several bands in his youth and also as a popular Reggae DJ. He loved sports and excelled as both a player and a coach in Babe Ruth & Legion Baseball. He was an accomplished member of the Boy Scouts of America, achieving the status of Explorer and member of the Order of the Arrow. Words cannot express the pride John brought to our family and the love we share with you as we mourn our loss.
Mr. Kelly was the loving brother of Maureen E. Shepard and her Husband G. Frederick of Connecticut, Kenneth J. Kelly and his wife Debbie of Plymouth & Brian E. Kelly and his wife Renee of Charlotte, North Carolina. He was the dear uncle of Marc, Derek & Genevieve Shepard, all of Connecticut, and Stephanie and Caroline Kelly, both of North Carolina. He was the loving companion of Gina Babcock and is also survived by loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Arrangements being made by the Bolea-Buonfiglio Funeral Home, 116 Franklin Street in Quincy. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John's Church, 44 School Street, Quincy on Friday, October 12 at 10am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8pm. Interment in Pine Hill Cemetery.
