Joseph Sonnino Amicone
October 1, 2011

Joseph Sonnino Amicone, of Mansfield, formerly of Norwood and Malden, at the age of 90, passed away quietly in the Village of Willow Crossing, Mansfield, his home for the past three years.

Preceeded in death by his loving wife Agnes (D'Amico) Obuchon of Norwood and his former wife, Martha (Bette) Patten. Also pre-deceased by his siblings, Mildred A. Amicone, Leta (Lee) Magarian and Emma Chiulli, all of Malden, MA.

The 8th child of Guiseppi Amicone and Carmina (Devigilio) of Pescara, Italy, Sonnino was born July 14th, 1921. He was known as "Sonny" until he went into the Army in 1944. He then changed his name to Joseph (his father's name in English).

When "Joe" finished his tour of duty, he completed a certificate course at Wentworth Institute in order to apprentice as a carpenter and later became a Master Carpenter. He worked as a Master carpenter until he retired. He was a member of the Carpenters Union and of the Italian American War Vets in Malden MA, the Eagles.

"Joe A." was happiest when he could be using his carpentry skills to help someone. He did repairs and renovations to the family home in Malden for his sister, Millie, and helped anyone else in the family who could use his assistance. If he wasn't physically doing the work, he was supervising.

Joe had 4 children from his first marriage with Bette: Martha Elizabeth Patten - Linda Lee Amicone of Wells, Maine, Joseph Michael Amicone of Sanford, Florida, Martha Elizabeth Peterson of North Andover, MA, and Janice Marie Naughton of Centerville, MA, now deceased. Also step-father to Agnes Amicone's two daughters, Beverly Amicone of Mansfield, MA and Elaine Pettit of Clearwater, Florida. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. In addition, he earned the love and respect of many who called him "Uncle". He will be sorely missed.
