John F. Sharpe Sr., of Mansfield, died unexpectedly on Monday March 8 at Caritas Norwood Hospital. He was 86 years old. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary B. (Ziniti) Sharpe for 60 years.
Born in S. Boston on January 25, 1924 where he was raised and educated, he graduated from South Boston High School. Mr. Sharpe was a resident of Mattapan prior to living in Mansfield for the past 37 years. He Served in the United States Army and was deployed to Europe during WWII. His professional life was devoted to the science of Mechanical Engineering. He participated in the design of the first automatic bowling pinsetter machine, the Polaroid SX Camera, defense work for Honeywell Aerospace and offshore marine docking applications. Mr. Sharpe was a faculty member of Wentworth Institute. He was a devoted member of St. Mary's Church in Mansfield for over 35 years, contributing as both a Cantor and Choir Member. He loved to sing and was gifted with a “Crooner's” voice which he employed regularly in many amateur musical productions.
Mr. Sharpe was the loving father of Jack and Maria Sharpe of Mansfield, Jim and Deb Sharpe of Quincy, Jean Corsi and her husband John of Dedham, Mike Sharpe and Carol of Westport, CT . , Matt and Erin Sharpe of Attleboro and Steve Sharpe of Mansfield. He was the cherished grandfather of John, Tim, Mike, Joann, Chris, Dave and Natalie.
Funeral from the Bolea-Amici Funeral Home, 115 N. Main Street, Mansfield on Saturday March 13 at 8am. Followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, 330 Pratt Street (Rte. 106) Mansfield at 9am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours are Friday 5-8pm. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery. Donations may be made in Mr. Sharpe's memory to St. Mary's Church, 330 Pratt Street, Mansfield, 02048.
