William J. O'Connell of Quincy died Monday March 29. He was 85 years old. He was the beloved husband of Rose (Salamone) O'Connell for 62 years.
Born in Boston on July 13, 1924, he was the loving son of the late Patrick and Agnes (McGourty) O'Connell. Mr. O'Connell was a graduate of the Quincy Trade School Class of 1942 and served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a Master Electrician for Bethlehem Steel, General Dynamics and the M.W.R.A. at the Fore River Shipyard.
In addition to his wife, Mr. O'Connell is survived by his children, MaryAnn McMahon and her husband Stephen of Franklin, William J. O'Connell, Jr. of Quincy, Thomas P. O'Connell and his wife Jeri of Braintree and Joan Morton and her husband Dennis of Quincy. He was the cherished grandfather of Andrew, Jennifer, Kevin, John and Rosemary and great-grandfather of Tommy. He is also survived by his brother Thomas O'Connell and his wife Jean of Princeton, NJ.
Funeral from the Bolea-Buonfiglio Funeral Home, 116 Franklin Street, Quincy on Friday April 2 at 9am. Followed by a Burial Prayer Service at St. John's Church, 44 School Street, Quincy at 10am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours are Thursday from 5-8pm. Interment in Mount Wollaston Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. O'Connell's memory to St. John's Church, 21 Gay Street, Quincy, MA 02169.
