Chester Gallus of Mansfield died Thursday August 26 at home. He was 93 years old. He was the beloved husband of Elmerinda (Garland) Gallus for 67 years.
Born on May 28, 1917 in New Bedford, he was the loving son of the late John and Julia (Dziekonski) Gallus. Mr. Gallus was raised and educated in Wareham. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. He proudly served as a Torpedo Man on the USS Overton, the USS Buckley and the USS Barton II. For his dedicated service he was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and the Good Conduct Ribbon. He worked as a Machinist at Bird Machine in S. Walpole until he retired in 1983. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed reading and cherished time with his family.
Mr. Gallus was the loving father of the late Glen Gallus. He was the loving brother of the late John, James, Steve, Walter, Charles, Frank, George and Ethyl Gallus. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Bolea-Amici Funeral Home, 115 N. Main Street, Mansfield on Sunday August 29 from 2-4pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Funeral and burial will be private. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, Donations may be made in Mr. Gallus' memory to the Caritas Hospice, 310 Allston Street, Brighton, MA 02135.
