Stephen J. Conroy

Stephen J. Conroy of Mansfield passed away after a brief illness on July 19 at the VA Hospital in West Roxbury. He was 91 years old. He was the beloved husband of Corinne (Palanza) Conroy for 55 years.

Born in Central Falls, RI on May 9 th , 1919 he was the loving son of the late John H. and Rachel (Hall) Conroy. Mr. Conroy was a graduate of St. Raphael Academy in 1939 and of Holy Cross College class of 1947. He was a member of the football team at Holy Cross and played in the 1946 Orange Bowl. He was a gunner in the United States Army Air Force during WWII and flew over 65 missions in the Pacific. Mr. Conroy served as a Selectman and Town Manager for the town of Mansfield, was one of the founders of the Mansfield Pop Warner Football, a member and starter at the Foxboro Country Club and an active Communicant of St. Mary's Church in Mansfield. Mr. Conroy worked for 18 years at the Mansfield Bleachery and then in sales for the J.L. Clemmey Tank Co. in Mansfield.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Conroy is survived by his 5 daughters Barbara and her husband Bruce Medeiros, Debbie and her husband Norman Choiniere, Mary and her husband Howie Kobey, Elaine and her husband Bob Brunelle all of Mansfield and Susan and her husband Durf Hyson of Thompson CT. He was the Cherished Grandfather of Stephen Medeiros and his wife Shannon, Kara and Joe Choiniere, Alexis and Rachael Kobey and Bobby and Jilly Brunelle. He was the loving brother of Mary Wildenhain and her husband Frank of Green Hill, RI. and the late James, John, Joseph and Francis Conroy, Elizabeth McDonald, Colleen Conroy, Gertrude Reilly and Margaret Graham.

Funeral from the Bolea-Amici Funeral Home, 115 N. Main Street, Mansfield on Friday July 23 at 8am. Followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, 330 Pratt Street (Rte. 106) Mansfield at 9am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours are Thursday from 3-8pm. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery.
