Hugh Geelin Chambers, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, died Wednesday December 30 at home. He was 79 Years old and the beloved husband of Rose (Dion) Chambers for 57 years.
Born on July 14, 1930 in Newton, he was the loving son of the late Ralph and Anne (O'Shaughnessy) Chambers. Mr. Chambers attended Mansfield School System and Coyle High School. Mr. Chambers was a Truck Driver and Teamster for 35 years. For the majority of his driving career he drove for Millis Transportation and then went on to work for Waste Management and Boro Sand & Stone in North Attleboro. Mr. Chambers served with distinction in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
In Addition to his wife Mr. Chambers is survived by his four daughters, Karen Chambers-Hughes and husband Charles of Mansfield, Deborah Butcher and husband Scott of Pennsylvania, Catherine Chambers of Wareham and Paula Bessette and husband Joseph of Attleboro. He was the cherished grandfather of six granddaughters, Melanie, Vanessa, Tanya, Kristen Lauren and Taylor and great-granddaughter Olivia Rose. Mr. Chambers was the loving brother of six surviving siblings, Harriet, Anthony, Maryann, Sarah, Jean and Steven and was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph and Joseph Michael.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 6-8pm. at the Bolea-Amici Funeral Home at 115 N. Main Street in Mansfield. Funeral from the Bolea-Amici Funeral Home on Monday at 8am. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, 330 Pratt Street (Rte. 106) in Mansfield, at 9am. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.
